Rachel Heffner- Alex Prager
Born in 1979 in LA, Photographer and Filmmaker. Dropped out of school at 14. She moved to Switzerland then because her friends mom got her a job at a knife shop. William Eggleston inspires her to become a photographer. Film stills from a film she made called Despair. Struggle of a ballerina, conflicts with love= suicide. Spotlights she jumps from a building.  Compulsion= disaster and special turbulence. A lot of her work is inspired by LA. Compulsion 1. Face in the Crowd film= rebuilt huge spaces of dense public gathering places. Extras to film the scene as well as friends and relatives, they are all just another face in the crowd. Video installation with actress Elizabeth Banks, 3 monitors for this piece. She personally dresses and stages each model for the pieces. Mainly works with primary colors, hates neon colors, they are new age and she wants a classic feel to her work. She choses 50s and 60s styles for the classic style as well. Min’s response= “Is that all?” Part of Post appropriating artist, very influenced by William Eggleston which could be why she choses that era in her work. Complete lack of respect was given to this presenter.

Hanna Vongpraseuth- Sophie Calle
October 9, 1953 in Paris, france. Giraffe= mother. Tiger= father. 1979 comes back to Paris to reacquaint herself with the city, and herself. The Striptease 1979. She is working as a stripper and is very intimate with herself. She adds notes and postcards with these images of when she was a child to add the innocent factor. She shows them in books often. Quote on the blog. Detective 1980. Asked mother to have a detective to follow her around the city, planned it according to where was important to her. She questions the roll of the spectator. She does a lot of collaborations with people. She changes the detective to the double game in the book. Voir La Mer 2011. Pays 14 people to go to the ocean for the first time, films their reactions. Films them from the back, installation is done with these large videos. She relates to this because she does not remember the ocean herself. Exquisite Pain 2003, Lover’s failure to meet her in New Delhi. Each day she takes a picture and writes a feeling. Take Care of Yourself 2007, got broken up with by an email. 107 women analyze the email and record their reactions to the email. The Sleepers 1979. All look like someone else is taking the shot. Some are more intimate than others. See America by Bus. Travels to different greyhound stations and documents what people he finds. Makes up stereotypes of what people are their. Spans over a long period of time as well. Sabrina looks rich but is traveling by bus. Has a lot of blown out areas in my opinion. Touching Strangers. Kinetic Boom, 2015- installation.  Created them all in London out of construction materials, painted them with matt paint so the metal can shine. Color palate is based on construction site colors. Sketches of his constructions, super meticulous planner. Viewing station in Manhattan. Only look at it through the hole. Placed right where he took the shot of the original image.
