Simple Video Editing Workshop (Basics of Premiere)

Video Simple Editing Workshop

·      Showed how to remove information from a micro SD card- goes directly inside of a MAC computer or you can export with the USB mini micro cord with every camera.
·      All files shot will be hidden in a package
o   Control Click
·      Show package content
·      Again show package content
·      Stream
·      VLC Player is free and you can preview what you have downloaded
·      Make a file on your desktop
o   Drag and Drop the whole package to that file to download
·      We are working with Premiere Pro CC 2015
o   Check these areas for the program
§  Applications
§  Search
§  Launchpad
§  Drag and add to your desktop for easy access
·      First- Create a new project
·      Scratch Disks are folders and files that automatically are created to help with file export.
o   Make sure it is all set to “Same as Project”

Functions Of The Windows In Premiere

·      If you can’t find a window then go to the window tab at the top
o   Window
o   Workspace
o   Editing
·      Project:- Bottom Left Corner
o   Uploaded files will go into “Bins” in this area you can organize like folders
o   Bottom left corner you can do list view or icon view
·      Source:- Top Left Corner
o   Double click Project Tab and you will pick it up and preview it
o   00(Min):00(Sec):00(Frame)
·      Program:- Top Right Corner
o   Preview of Final Project
·      Timeline:- Bottom Right Corner
o   Temporarily arrange video to be exported
·      Audio Input Bar- Bottom Right All The Way Right
o   -6 to -12 dB (Decibels)
o   Anymore will be too much, want to be in the green not the red or yellow, it gets pitchy and sounds like a telephone call
·      To start an import of a file go to Project Window
o   Double sideways arrow
o   Media Browser
o   To import right click and drag and drop over to the Paper icon at the bottom of the window titled New Item
o   The new sequence icon is confusing and not necessary.
o   Rename the second sequence that has now popped up in your Project window, so you do not get confused with the new file
o   You can zoom the file size in and out with the drag bar at the bottom of the Timeline window
§  29.97 (approximately 30) frames per second
·      Timeline Window-
o   Make sure you are in selection mode listed below in detail
o   Blue start bar, can be dragged to start the start line (play back headline)- upside down flat based triangle with extended line
o   The boxes with the movie clips at the very front you can see a red [ with an arrow in the middle and you can drag and drop it at your desired “In Point”
o   The same thing appears at the end to adjust your “Out Point”
§  This is how you trim or crop a clip
·      (Arrow) Selection tool
o   You can select and drag and drop in the Timeline Window
·      (Crooked Rectangle) Razor tool
o   You can split video with this tool into 2 or more parts
o   You can select and move after that
o   You can delete or reformat
·      Source Window-
o   You can move blue flat upside-down triangle and [Control I] to create a new “In Point” also [control O] for a new “Out Point”

Exporting
·      Select Sequence or Program Window
o   Make sure nothing is selected in the Project File
·      Select
o   File at the top
o   Export
o   Media
·      Format: H.264
·      Preset: Match Source- High bitrate
·      Click export video
·      Click export audio
·      Width- 1920
·      Height- 1080
·      Frame Rate- 29.97
·      Field Order- Progressive
·      Aspect- Square pixels (1.0)
·      Bitrate Encoding
o   VBR (variable bitrate)
o   CBR (Constant bitrate)
o   VBR 1 pass- check over once for problems
o   VBR 2 pass- checks over twice (preferable)
§  Up to 10% better
§  Takes a longer time to export
·      Target bitrate= (10-20) around 15 is good
·      Maximum bitrate= 20
·      Video Tab
o   AAC- better than MP3
o   Sample Rate- 32000 Hz
o   Channels- Stereo
o   Audio Quality- High
o   Bitrate- 320

Importing Mini DV Footage 

·      Must have battery powered outlet hooked up to camera to insure successful import
·      Need firewall cable
o   Find port on camera to connect too
o   Connect other side to computer
o   Needs to be in playback mode
o   Create new empty folder
·      Start new project
o   Rename
o   Specify browser file
o   Scratch disks “Same as Project”
o   Capture Format (DV)
o   Ok
o   File- Capture
o   Click Start then stop
o   Play all the way through for a consistent time code
·      Time code
o   On right hand side hit set in and it will grab that point (I)
o   Set out to get out times dropped in (O)
·      Don’t need media import
·      Drag and drop to new item
·      File
o   Export
§  Media
·      16x19 is not correctly to width 720 and height 480
§  Aspect
·      D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16.9 (1.2121)
·      Change to square pixels
·      Change Height and Width to not have black boarders
o   Uncheck width and height (by clicking the link icon)
o   16.9=852 to 480
o   If not it will look squished on the computer
·      Field order- progressive
·      Bitrate- VBR 2 pass
·      Target Bitrate- 5to10
·      Maximum- 10
·      Click Export
